More than 60 universities that are part of the UMOB Project and belong to the “European Network for Sustainable Mobility at University” benefit from its main outcomes.
Concretely, 10 of the universities that signed the highest level of commitment with UMOB Project have already prepared sustainable mobility plans by defining concrete actions to be implemented up to 2021. This is aimed at boosting more sustainable cities and campuses all over the EU.
These sustainable mobility plans developed by UMOB are part of a series of framework strategies at EU level aimed at reducing CO2. Some of them include the Urban Mobility Package (2013), the European Strategy for low-emission mobility (2016) and initiatives such as the Urban Agenda for the EU (Urban Mobility) (2017). UMOB Project is consistent with these strategies since its final objective is to implement actions at university campuses to reduce carbon dioxide emissions due to the university commuting.
After a detailed analysis and diagnosis of the current situation in each university, each one of them has defined a set of initiatives to address the mobility in their campuses. Some of them include:
The process included a mobility survey that each university filled out. Each of their university communities has actively been involved in their delivery. This has been the main tool and a key element in detecting problems and proposed solutions in their future sustainable mobility plans.
